I've had a few ask for these to be put online, note that these answers are not confirmed to be 100% correct but should provide at least some guidance!

Thanks once again go to Carl who typed up the answers I gave out in session for me; if these differ from what you've got written down then that's because of corrections made based on Julia's answers.

	Hope you're all well!

As promised here is the final fluid design shown in the sessions this week.

If you didn't attend, note the way the content resizes based on the size of your browser, also check out how the navigation works via CSS Sprites.

Have a go at making a fluid design yourself and play around with percentages. You'll have noticed I changed the image on the page, this was because the other image is copyright- you should always watch out for that!

I also noted a lot of people this week who haven't got themselves the Web Developer Toolbar for Firefox, link below! Ctrl+Shift+E to edit CSS live on page :)

Here is the FLA and SWF used in the sessions this week.

Remember when creating the music feature on your Media Tech sites, that there are plenty of standard Flash playback buttons available under Window/Common Libraries/Buttons in the main Flash window. The ActionScript used is available by right clicking the frame and selecting actions, or right clicking any of the buttons and doing the same.

This week I've gone back to a method I tried earlier on in PAL and crafted a very broken webpage, see if you can get it to validate as XHTML Strict and CSS.

Also included is an RSS feed with the tags explained, this is basically to show you as requested how to construct an RSS feed for your own websites, why not have a go?

Just like XHTML and CSS, the W3C offer a validator for RSS, you can find the link below.

A quick note about last week, when using the Flickr API remember to keep it legal: link back to the Flickr photo you're using and also take note of licensing; most photos are Creative Commons Share-Alike, meaning you merely have to say who the author was, but some are banned from commerical use and some are fully copyright, so don't use them at all! There are options in the Flickr API to ignore those photos.

Week 6

Not a major update since I didn't use my laptop much in this weeks sessions. However I've linked to the PHP example I used in Monday's session (I'll go over it next week with Tuesday session) and the exam paper from last year.

You can also obtain exam papers from previous years by logging into the UWE eLibrary, they can be found in CEMS -> Introduction to the Web.

Last Years Exam Paper (PDF)

PHP Form Template

email.php Source Code

Tony has updated his materials for the coming weeks from that of last year. So next week I'm pleased to say we'll be looking at amongst other things, AJAX.

Awesome, I actually updated the site quickly so that you guys have a chance of remembering what I went on about in the session!

Make sure you check out the PHP, understand how it works and look at the source txt files so you can see how I wrote them. Remember that you cannot simply locally run PHP locally, upload your files to your personal webspace at uwe (milly server). Then run them via http://cems.uwe.ac.uk/~yourname/something.php.

Week 2

Hey guys, sorry about the delay, been a bit busy; here are all the materials I used in the sessions this week, if you have any questions send them through to the usual email; I'm thinking of setting up a small commenting system on here like on my blog so that you can leave messages much more easily.

Also don't forget to track me down on Facebook, if enough of you add me I'll create a group or something so you can discuss the sessions and what YOU want to talk about in them.

PowerPoint Slides (PPT Version)

HTML4 Template

XHTML Template

XHTML with CSS Template

CSS Sprite Template

You may notice some of the examples looking slightly... improved, especially those in the Monday session hehe. Also if you're interested in learning more about the JavaScript example I used this week 'external', it's infact running on this page (javascript.js) used on the sample links above :)

Also back to a quick thing I skimmed over in the sessions, here is a direct link to the image used to render the links in the footer of my website. Why not use the FireFox Web Developer toolbar to have a look at the CSS on my site (Ctrl+Shift+E); and work out how I did it! Hint: It's right at the bottom of style.css!

Next week we'll be covering JavaScript! Why not find something interesting done in JavaScript on a website that you use? We'll discuss in the session.

Hi, Welcome to the PAL area of SteveLacey.net; to have got here you've probably met me in one of the scheduled PAL sessions, but if not- feel free to come along to one of the session ran on Mondays at 2:30 and Tuesdays 12:30 in 2P39.

My name is Steve, I'm the PAL Leader for the Introduction to the Web module of your course. In the sessions we will be covering the module criteria and hopefully I'll be able to help you understand anything that you may have got lost on during lectures.
